design studies project
project statement
This project develops the skills of design through experimentation with various design elements and principles, with the goal being to create an effective and eye-pleasing layout. The created designs must display the following (one of each): Figure/Ground, Point/Line/Plane, Rhythm, and Scale.

The first design featuring the eye creates rhythm and optical illusion through its repeated lines. While the eye is obviously the center of the design, the consistency in the lines' weight and thickness truly gives it its rhythm. The second design utilizes varying sizes of bats, as well as the inclusion of a giant moon, to convey difference in scale. The third design, Point/Line/Plane, applies the elements that the name suggests and produces both a web and spider shape from it. The final design displays a cigarette burning, with the abstract shapes above creating the effect of smoke and the small dots falling from below symbolizing ash.
